Collier coached at Nebraska.....it wasn't very successful.

He was very successful at Butler though. Taking the job for a year wouldn't be the craziest thing ever.

I say call Marshall and Smart. If they don't answer, get Howland, I'm sure he'd jump at the job.

How much was Stevens making at Butler? I can't imagine they can offer big dough to match what someone is making already.

Yes, right now Howland, Smart and Marshall have to be considered right out of the gate. I think Smart is the biggest long shot out of that group. Marshall has zero reason to stay now that the MVC is a one bid league. John Gianni the La Salle coach maybe?

All would be very good candidates. Here's hoping Butler can pick up at least one of them. Howland would probably be the easiest to land at this point, Smart I don't see moving for Butler if he didn't for UCLA. I don't hate the idea of Collier as a 1 year band-aid. Worst case Butler can always hire back Lickliter for a couple years, I hear he's coaching at some smaller NAIA school in Indianapolis at the moment (yes, I'm aware of the Iowa debacle, and it's not an ideal option).

This is my opinion. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

Rumor has it that Butler is interviewing LaVall Jordan (Mich assistant). Other options right now are Collier for a one year interim or possibly Bryce Drew. At least that's what I'm hearing. Marshall costs too much money for Butler so that is out of the question.

Big problem is Butler is going to be down for a few years. Hopefully we can snag a few 3 star recruits in the 2014 class. Butler was in a good position with quite a few 4 star recruits (Bluiett, Macura, Tejada, etc). Most of those recruits are out of the window now. I'm just hoping this is only a 3-4 year issue.

Wish list:
Gregg Marshall, Mark Few, Dan Monson

Probable list:
LaVall Jordan (asst at Michigan), Brandon Miller (current asst), Bryce Drew (valpo coach), Todd Lickliter as an interm

I would go with LaVall Jordan. That would land a nice 4-some of Jordan, Miller, Terry Johnson & Mike Lewis.

ESPN.com has learned that Butler will act extremely fast to fill Stevens' spot. Assistants are in play to replace him.
